St John’s secondary school was founded in 1972 is a missionary school under the Diocese of Otukpo with a vision (Vision Statement) of providing Wholistic education per excellence at the grassroot and a vision (Vision Statement) of creating Academic and Moral excellence for self reliance through systematic teaching. to be the most vibrant school among others and in the state and beyond; to inculcate discipline and moral in student as staff.
It started as one classroom in the catholic primary school Amoke of Otukpo in the then Benue/plateau state. The school started with 36 students and moved to its current and permanent site in March 1972 as an all boys (boys only) school.
Reverend Father Gaffney M.A. was the first principal and he built the school up to form four before leaving in August 1975, he was succeeded by Reverend Father Groves.
The school which started off as an all Boys boarding school was converted to a coeducational institution and a day school in 1999 and 1995 respectively.
The school is dedicated to teaching/training up children educationally and moraly, offering quality teaching and enabling environment for this to be possible.
